help with my inspiron and dsl connection

Hello, I have had my laptop for 3 years now. I used an ethernet conection at college and it worked fine. Now that im home i was using aol dial-up and it worked fine but too slow so i just changed to verizon dsl. Now it will not connect. I really am not a computer wizard so i dont know what to do. I know it isnt the dsl modem thats not working because it works perfectly with my mothers desktop. Any suggestions?

Did you set up the PPPoE connection in the Internet Connection Wizard?

How to set up the dsl connection depends exactly on how your dsl provider has it set up.  Did you get instructions from Verizon on how to set it up?

Steve,
I am also having the exact same problem.  I had high speed internet through our cable company, then we moved and had to get dial up through verizon.  Now we moved again and I just got high speed internet through the cable company again and it is not letting me connect.  I contacted their support and they advised me that the computer is not reading the modem  the cable company hooked up to my computer.  They walked me through some things to try and they had also given me a disk to help with the set up and nothing works.  It trys to renew my IP address, but still doesn't work.  I remember I had the same problem once before and it had to do with the telephone/dial up part in the computer (if I am remembering correctly).  What suggestions do you have?

Steve, well I received a cd from verizon giving me all the directions on how to set up the modem and everything else. Im pretty sure the modem is connected correctly since it works with another computer, its just my computer that wont connect. I also called the technical service and they walked me through some steps to manually connect the computer but that didnt work either.

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.
