What do you need differently at office and at home? There may be other ways to do what you want.

I have a wireless network at home and at work. At work I have WEP encryption. At home, no encryption. Different SSID's. Computer automatically switches when I change location. The networks you use repeatedly should be in the 'Preferred Networks' box in your settings. Right click on the connection, choose 'Properties'. Select the 'Wireless Networks' tab. You should see a box labled 'Preferred Networks'. That should contain the home and work wireless connection SSID. Click on the 'Advanced' button. Since you want to connect to Infrastructure and Ad Hoc networks, select the 'Any available network (access point preferred)' radio button. Again, since you want connection in Ad Hoc mode, check the 'Automatically connect to non-preferred networks' checkbox.
On the question of Network name. Are you referring to the Workgroup name? If so, that requires a reboot to change. You could possibly change that in a Hardware Profile -- don't know since I haven't tried that.
I set my home Workgroup to be the same as my work Workgroup for convenience. However, you should still be able to access resources in a workgroup different from your current setting.
