I don't have a clue
Hey all,
Using a networking Wizard in windows XP, I set up a network between my desktop computer and my wife's laptop.
It seems that I have the necessary file and printer sharing folders set to share (I'm not positive about this since I know basically zero about networking).
However, so far I have been unable to gain access to any files or printer from the laptop.
I would appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

The most common thing that prevents file and printer sharing on networks is improperly configured firewalls. On any computer running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. On computers running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab. If you are running any third party firewalls, like those provided by such programs as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Security Center, make sure they are configured to allow local network traffic.

personally i would ditch zone alarm, i could never get my local network working well with their free version.
If you have XP SP2 and more to the point if you have a network behind a router, you are pretty secure already

I haven't used Zone Alarm for a long time either, but it is possible to get it to allow local network traffic. It's time to go to the help files.
