I lost my internet connection
Good Morning,
I lost my internet connection on my "wired" desktop and it tells me the IP configuration is invalid. Modem and cable had been replaced, computer rebooted, and we even tried to manually set a different IP config (per internet provider). I tried to follow the instruction to girrl (2011 post), but I'm getting stuck on the part where she was intructed to download from Internet Explorer. How can I do that without an internet connection?
Please help.

M Genevieve,
Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system?
Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.
What virus program and firewall are you using?

Hello Rick,
I have a McAfee. The firewall is Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. I have no idea how to post the log here. I have it up on the screen and I attempted to copy by right-click but it won't let me. Can you please teach me?

M Genevieve,
First try...
Your setup should be...
wall > ISP modem/router > wireless router(if any) wired/wireless
Unplug the ethernet cable from the computer and ISP modem/router. Shutdown the computer. Power off the ISP modem/router and the wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Plug the ethernet cable in to a numbered port on your wireless router(if any). If not wireless router, then plug the ethernet cable in to the ethernet connection in the isp modem/router.
Power on the isp modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any). Start the computer with the ethernet cable connected.
What happens?
You can look at the McAfee firewall settings. This is for printers but will get you to the firewall settings. Allow a printer past McAfee

M Genevieve,
The 169.254 IP Address is telling me there is a communication problem with your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any)
The setup should be
wall > ISP modem/router > wireless router(if any) wired/wireless

Hello again,
I already had that checked. I called it in and an ATT Uverse technician came to the house and replaced the modem with a brand new one. He also checked the cable. Before I even wrote here, I have spoken to an ATT agent and we tried a few options. We did the re-boot, a remote modem diagnostics check, and we also tried manually setting a different IP4 address that starts with 192... (the technician did indicate that the IP address "169" is not a good one).
Also, I forgot to mention that I have 3 other computers in our household that have no internet issues at all. I have a wireless desktop, a wireless laptop, and a wireless notebook. This "wired" desktop is the only unit that has issues.
Any other ideas?

M Genevieve,
Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then select your operating system.
Under network, download the drivers for your wireless adapter and save it to your desktop.
Make a system restore point.
Start, control panel, device manager, network, right click on your adapter, then left click uninstall. Tell it to remove the drivers and software.
Restart your computer. When you log back in, the new hardware wizard will install the adapter. Check in the device manager and see if the adapter is installed properly. If it's not installed properly, then, install the adapter with the drivers you downloaded.
Try to connect.
What happens?
