I need a repeater

Let me repeat:

I have an Inspiron 8500 with a MPCI 1300 TM card.

As my 1184 TM router is located at the top floor, the signal is very poor in the living room, 2 floors below, and even poorer in the garden. Now I thought I should use a repeater to get additional strength. I have 3 questions:

• Could I buy a TM 2300 Router (working with 54 MBit) and use it as my (main)-router and the 1184 as a repeater? Does the 1184 support the repeater mode? I heard that the use of a repeater cuts the data thruput by 50% anyways
• If the 1184 cannot be used as a repeater, what else could I buy? (As i live in germany, I would appreciate recommendations of brands which are availalable here as well, like Linksys, SMC, Netgear)
• What else should be taken inaccount when choosing and configuring a repeater?

Sorry, I was trying to be funny. and only half-joking at that as I need the same thing.

I've just ordered the D-LINK 108mbps Router, D-LINK 108mbps Access Point/Range Extender, and two PCMCIA 108mbps Cards to hopefully acheive the same result (but faster).

I'll let you know how it works. But it seems that mixing manufacturers with routers/repeaters is not a good idea as they aren't so efficient. I've been on 801.b since my previous laptop and my 8500 came with the G built in. But I've not utilized it but found more need for it on my LAN (vs. Internet) of late. So I'm upgrading the whole shebang.
