I reinstalled Windows Xp Pro and no video or network controllers are installed!

After reinstalling Windows, the first drivers that should be installed are the chipset drivers.  Did you reinstall the chipset drivers?

find a working pc (preferably with a CD burner and high speed internet).  goto support.dell.com click product support, click downloads.  enter your system info and download the drivers you need.  start with Notebook System Software, then your chipset driver, then your video driver ... then everything else.

I might also suggest burning a second CD with the full network installer of Service Pack 2 and doing the upgrade before installing the above drivers.  Regardless, do NOT connect that newly reformatted PC to the network without first turning a firewall on -- unpatched, new windows installations will be cripplied within minutes by viruses

hi, thanks so much for the information, i will reinstall windows professional xp again then install the windows service pack 2 , then the chipset drivers from dell support, and then follow with the video and everything else! I also have one more question, i did do the downloads on the dell support site with my service tag id put in the search bar so it came up with exactly what i needed, but a few of the files, the chipset being one of them  said that this file belongs to a group of files, please install the last disk now to finish downloading, well, when i downloaded it from dell, it was the only download and site i could download from, so where are these so called files and extra disks in the so called set at? i am confused now! Someone please help! thanks

the dell support site is more current than your cd, which is why i suggested it ...  not all the drivers it lists for the 1150 will necessarily be needed for your configuration

you probably do need to get a download called notebook system software though

There really is no need to reinstall windows again. Just get the chipset drivers and install them first. Then install the video drivers, network drivers, modem drivers, etc. These drivers should all be on a CD that came with your system. Either the Dell Resouce CD or the Dell Drivers and Utilities CD. If you don't have that CD, then you will have to download the drivers from the Dell support site.

ok i downloaded all the drivers i needed from the dell support site and they wont install , it says its a floppy set and  my laptop has no floppy drive! Now what do i do

I am so aggravated, i just wanna throw the thing out the window!

In particular, which driver is saying it's a "floppy set"? The drivers I told you to install are the chipset drivers, the video drivers, network drivers, and modem drivers. Just get these. The one that is calling for a floppy is like a flash BIOS upgrade, which you don't need.

ok i know that one is a floppy disk set, but so  is the exe one i downloaded from dell support for the chipset, i open it to install it and it says that it is one of a floppy disk set, please insert disk one! i dont get it, what do i do now? please help!

Ok nevermind, it worked, i redownloaded the chipset and the drivers i needed and this time they unzipped correctly! Thanks for your time and patience i really appreciate it, i am now online and ready to go! thanks again!!!!:smileysurprised:
