i6400: how to Intel WirelessPRO without DHCP?
Hello
Recently I switsched my home lan from DHCP to manual. But the built in Wireless Client in my inspiron 6400 (Intel-WirelesspPRO abg) seems to have problems with a manual ip address. I properly configuered in the windows-settings the manual ip-address.
After about 1 hour the connection to the router becoms problematic an i can no longer access wan (i strangely still can access lan-devices)
As soon as i switch the router back to DHCP and the windows settings fo the wireless-client to "automatic" my connection is back...
...but i want to be able to run a manually configured lan without DHCP!
...any ideas?

Since you mention that you have WAN/Internet connectivity for approx 1 hour before any issues show up, I believe your DHCP Lease time from your router is expiring and then returns the IP address back to the pool.
Since you have set "static" IP addressing.....you never re-request the address....and hence mapping is lost, and your connection.
Solutions/workarounds :
(1) Statically put a IP to MAC addressing mapping into your Home router.....if it supports this - for the home PC you wish to statically set. This will stop the router ever offering that IP address to any home LAN PC.
(2) Use an IP address above the current DHCP scope of your home router......as long as the IP address is in the same subnet and pointing to the same default gateway/home router.
