Infrared connection lost after a few seconds

I am trying to connection a Nokia 6100 to my Dell Latitude D400 running Windows XP.

I have managed to get the IrDA port working (in BIOS) and seem to be able to see the phone (IR icon in the task bar).

However, the icon appears / disappears losing & reganing the connection.

If I do manage to start the Nokia PC Suite in time, a connection is established but it is then lost within a few seconds.

I have the phone only a few cms from the port. What can be causing this. Do I need to change the modem speed to keep the connection?

Hi Gavin !!

I found it ! ;)  I surf the .net almost the whole day to get a solution 4 it .. n I stumble on a suggestion to me to lower the IR speed limit .. the default value is 4Mbps in our dell laptop, once i lower it to 57.6Kbps .. it works !

Try it now .. i hope it works for you too.

Thanks for the 57 kbs solution. now i can backup my nokia 6340i. just an aside, on other pc's  I
did not have to change the speed from 4000000 to 57 as on my D800 and the ir link works fine.
