Inspiron 1720 Wireless adapter issues
New to Forum...Please help if you can.
Inspiron 1720 lost wireless connection after Service tech had me reboot Wireless router for other issue not relating to this computer. Now when I look for wireless connections can not find any. Hard wire works fine. Trouble shoot states there may be a problem with one or more of my network adapters. Not very computer savy....But did find a way to run a Ping test and pass. Clicked on my 1502 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini card and it states this device is working properly. Opened Broadcom control suite and it shows a Red X on the intergrated controller and the wireless card. with option to run a test or explanation of the Red X.
Do I need a new card or is there something else conflicting with it.. I find it hard to believe the card crashed right when I rebooted the Router...ISP sent a tech out but was not able to find problem...
Any one else have this problem and or know how to fix it. I do not mind buying another card but would like to make sure the card is the problem first
Thank you for any help you can send

Hi,
Welcome to the Community. First check if the Wireless Switch is turned on. The switch is on left side of the system. Then check if you are able to detect wireless networks.
If that does not work, then I suggest you uninstall and reinstall the Wireless Card driver. To uninstall, click on start, right click on My Computer, click on properties, click on device manager, click on the + symbol next to Network, right click on Dell 1502 card and click on uninstall, click ok to confirm. Once its removed, do no restart your computer, click on the below link to download and install the updated driver, and then restart your computer.

Thank you for the info...
Yes I have checked the switch it is on...
Tried to install the download..But, System stated that it is not supported.. I am running Windows Vista. Could this be the problem? I did not see Vista in the list of supported operating systems.
Any thoughts
Thank you
John

Hi,
This system was shipped with a Dell Wireless 1505 a/b/g/n Mini-Card. You original post says 1502 draft card. Below is the link for the driver for Windows Vista.

I tried to install the new driver...System stated it was successfully installed....still can not see any wireless networks and now I get the Microsoft windows statement: "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Controller stopped working and was closed...A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available."
Thank you so far for your reply....Sorry none have worked so far

John,
Can you try running this tool first and post the results back here. If you cannot get the tool to work, then run an ipconfig /all log.
Download the System Information Tool If using Vista/Windows 7, the tool needs extracted. Once extracted, right click on sysinfo and run as administrator.
If using XP, double click on the tool, then double click on sysinfo.
Allow this past your virus program and post the information back here.

John,
Places to look to see if the Connection is enabled
Try reading...
Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers
Can your laptop connect if it's next to the wireless router?
What virus program and firewall are you using?
Did you try...
Powering off the ISP moden/router and the wireless router(if any). Wait 30 seconds, then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)
Restart the computer and try to connect.

Hello Pudgy
Here is the info from running the program you asked me to down load.
I have noted that the IP address is missing from the Vitals tab under the Wireless card in the Broadcom control suite program. I do not know how to add the Ip address.
Thank you for your help
John
