Inspiron 2650 Modem Help

I recently upgraded from XP Home to Professional.  When I did that, during installation, I received a message" The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be olcated in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL.  Setup completed, but when I tried to log onto the Internet through my ISP (Netzero), I got an error message "cannot dial".
I went to check the Device Manager through My Computer and received another message "The procedure entry point RemoteAssitancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dll".  I was able to get to the Device Manager and locate my modem which is an Actiontec MD 56Ord V92 MDC.  However, I was not able to locate the port that it uses.
I have tried uninstalling, adding a comm port through add new hardware, I even used the Drivers, Utilities and Applications CD to reinstall the system software that was original.  I also used modem helper and it said my modem was fine.
I am stressing out because I have online classes with assignments due and I need IIS to create a webform for one of my assignments.
Please Help!!
Aloha,
D

Make sure you load the chipset driver for the notebook.  The com port is virtual, will not show up in the Device Manager list, and is usually Com2 or more likely Com3.

As advice too late,  it is never a good idea to mess with a working computer during the semister.
