Inspiron 600M Losing Internet connection

Question

Every few minutes I get the message 'There are more than one wireless network to connect to'.  I lose connection everytime that happens and then 98% of the time, there is no other network available and I have to reconnect.  How do I stay connected regardless of how many wireless networks become available? this is most frustrating!

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try the following:

Update the drivers and firmware for the router and also for the wireless network card.
Try changing the channel on the wireless adapter.
Remove all sources of interference, like cordless telephones, microwaves, etc.
Disable WEP on your router.

Are you letting windows control the wireless card or Intel's?

I have been letting windows control the wireless card.  This laptop had the Centrino chip.

You want the Intel ProSet controlling the wireless network. Try going to the start menu,connect to,wireless network connection,properties,wireless networks and uncheck the top box that says: Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. Then you should be able click on your wireless card icon in the taskbar and configure your network. This stopped my 600m from finding other networks and shutting down after 3 min.
