By any chance did you previously set up any encryption in your router?

Encryption is important for safeguarding your network.

Whilst you are having these teething problems it is perhaps wise to temporarily disable encryption to see if your wireless connection problem goes away. If it does then that indicates that your encryption key which you are using on your laptop does not fully match the one you set in your router.

i temporarily disabled the encryption and i was able to get on. thank you. now when i enable the encryption again, i get the same msg... 'limited or no connectivity....'. i'm at a loss here. i dunno what to do. what am i doing wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated. again, i am new to this. when i set up my router and enable the encryption (wep 128bit), it asks me to enter a passphrase and generate a key 1. is that the same as the encryption key? do i enter the passphrase itself or the key that it generates? and where and how do i enter that on my laptop so that it matches with my router. again, any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

You have to use the key that is generated by the router and insert that into the configuration for your laptop wireless software.

When you ask your laptop to connect to your router you should be prompted to enter the appropriate encryption key before you can access your router.

It is sometimes simpler, if your router supports it, to use WPA encryption which is far more secure than WEP.

This problem is normaly caused by the windows firewall even if you have disabled the windows firewall some features remain enabled go to control panel click on firewall click on the advanced tab then untick all the check boxes I am certain this will fix your problem
