Inspiron 8600, Terayon cable modem - wired connection problem
RE: Inspiron 8600, Windows XP Home,
Intel@2200 wirless adapter, Broadcom 440x 10/100 adapter
Successfully using Dimension 4550 with cable modem (Terayon brand) at home, with auotmatic addressing, not static. Acquired Inspiron 8600 with wireless and wired adapters. No wireless setup yet. Attempted to connected by cable to cable modem but won't acquire address. Tried "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew," with no luck. "Ipconfig /all," when connected to cable modem, shows the internally-acquired ipaddress. Have shut down cable modem for 5 minutes, then connected to powered-off laptop. Powered on cable modem, waited 5 minutes, and powered on 8600. No luck with connection. Brought 8600 to work and able to connect to automatic-addressing network (not static) with wireless and wired methods. Is there some issue with the Intel@ adapter I'm not aware of? Are there special issues with cable modems? Reluctant to obtained wireless router to connect to cable modem if connection problem will still happen.

Try doing the cable modem reset again, this time waiting about 10 minutes before you turn it back on. If it still doesn't connect, go the command prompt and do an ipconfig /all. Write down the results and report them here.
