Inspiron E1405 Wireless Connections Help

I've been doing research on the Dell site for hours via a landline and still cannot find a solution to my problem.

Recently, my wireless internet function has not been working on my Inspiron E1405 computer that I purchased in June 2006.  The Intel Proset/Wireless shows the networks in range, and then is unable to connect.  I don't think it is a security issue because I have been able to access those networks in the past, as recently as last week.  I think maybe one of my drives or programs got uninstalled, but I'm clueless how to fix it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've installed McAfee SC 8.0 out of curiousity (and to fully utilise my 15 months subscription) but it has since made my life miserable again - slow internet connection, slow startup, unable to load some webpages etc. I've given up and completely removed it from my system and looking for an alternative. I wonder why DELL is still shipping the product and also WHY is it stated as compatible with VIsta when it's not?! Please save everyone from the trouble and misery by not installing it with the system in the first place.

Hey ckkuan,

I think it's a pre-requirement for Dell to install an anti-virus into all their desktop/notebooks. However, probably Norton has not gotten a Vista compatible patch up yet, therefore McAfee was the next best solution (I think).

Anyway, just wait for Avira (http://www.free-av.com). They are coming up with a compatible Vista patch on the 18th of this month (another few more days) and they are pretty good with it too... I've used that and also Zonealarm on several occasions with my desktop / notebook.

floby,

The USB adapter will only work using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.

Since this thread is from 2007, I would recommend making a new thread with your problem in the Dell Networking, Internet, Wireless Forums

This thread will be locked.
