Inspiron n4010 wireless will not connect

I'm at my wits end on trying to get my n4010 inspiron to connect wirelessly.  It was working about two weeks ago but now will not work

1. I've upgraded by bios to version A13

2. I've checked in the bios advanced tap to ensure the wireless was enabled, it is

3. Device manger says the drivers are up to date and the device is working properly, driver version 5.60.48.35

4. System info says the wireless adapter is disabled

5. wireless key F2 has no impact on the status

dlvette,

Let's first try...

Start, control panel, network and sharing center, click on your connection, look for TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 and click on properties for each. Have your settings match mine.

What virus program and firewall are you using?

What is the make and model of your wireless router and the type of security?

Can you connect in the same room as the router?

Unfortunately, I don't have a screen like yours that is showing for a wireless connection.  The only thing I have showing up  is my Wired connection.

I'd send you a picture of it, but can't figure out how to include the screen shot of the network connections.

I have a new Linksys N900 running WEP encryption.  I have 12 other devices, including another Dell N4010 laptop connected to the network without any issues

I am in the same room as the router already.

I've running norton 360 for anti-virus

I've also booted the laptop in SAFE mode with networking to take the norton out of the equation and there is no difference in the how the laptop behaves from a connectivity point of view.

If I try to use the windows mobility panel, the wireless is not there and the only option available for the F2 key is bluetooth.  the other options are grayed out.

dlvette,

Read page 45 in the Dell Service Manual Check to make sure the adapter is seated properly. If you're under warranty, I suggest you contact Dell Tech Support. I suspect your adapter may have come loose or failed, unless your virus program has removed the drivers for the adapter.

This is for printers, but should get you to Nortons Firewall settings. Allow a printer past Norton

I really recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would also suggest making a new SSID to make connecting easier. If you have any wireless devices, like printers, you would have to set them up again.

dlvette,

Download the drivers for your wireless adapter and save them to your desktop.

Make a system restore point.

Start, control panel, device manager, network adapters, right click on your wireless adapter, left click uninstall. Tell it to remove the drivers and software.

Restart your computer.

When you log back in, the new hardware wizard will try to install the adapter but fail. Then install the drivers from yuor desktop.

Happy New Year, I still have 8 1/2 hours to go. :emotion-22:

Rick,

I appreciate your help.  I'll take a look at your service manual.   Before pulling the laptop apart, I think I'll try reloading the drivers, even though the system says the adapter is working properly. I'll also take a look at the other settings you've suggested as well.

Have a happy new year.

one last question.  can you point me to the correct driver?  None of the ones on the website seem to want to install on my system.

dlvette,

Go to Dell Warranty Status enter your service tag, click on original configuration and your wireless adapter should be listed there.
