Installed Ethernet on Win98 SE system...doesn't connect to the internet
Finally got fiber optics DSL to my house. My newer Dell 4600 with Win XP O/S already had a card and it connected instantly. Had to install a fast ethernet card on my older Dimension XPS with Win 98 SE O/S. It doesn't connect to the internet! I called Linksys and had them run the diagnostics and it apparently is ok (pings, etc). I know it is not the modem as my newer Dell works fine in that room and I brought the Win98 system down there and hooked it up there. What can the problem be? Please help someone. My ISP wants me to haul it in and have them run diagnostics. I have a feeling they won't be able to help.
Thanks!

Does your network adapter show up in Device Manager? Does it show up in network connections? Is the network card getting an IP address from the router? Are you running any software firewalls that may be blocking internet access? Do the link lights on the network card and the router port to which it is connected both light up when both devices are powered on?
