Intel 4965BGN Wireless Card Not Recogising Wireless N Network

Question

Can anyone help me regarding above mentioned issue? I tried many solutions/configurations but yet unable to solve it.   Recently, i just brought a Linksys WAG325N Wireless N modem with build in router. The configurations are all okay as i had called Linksys to confirm everything.   But the Intel 4965BGN on my laptop (Inspiron 1420) only recognise the connection as Wireless G, 802.11G which i believe it should have recognise it as Wireless N. 802.11N instead? Thus i am wondering what might be the main problem?   I had updated my wireless driver at the DELL support page but yet the problem still remain there.   Thus i decided to post here to see whether is there any fellow DELL users can help me out here.   Thanks in advance guys.

check out the drivers at intel.com  -- sometimes dell lags behind intel in releases.   also, if you're letting windows manage the connection, you can try the intel ProSet utility.  And if you're using the ProSet utility you can try windows.

Hi, Sorry I'm in. As well you must check your settings (in router and in notebook) that N is enabled. b and g could be together enabled and be as automatic, but N you must setup in both locations.

Hmm as for the Wireless Card driver, i already updated it to the latest version.   As for the configuration, the router is already been configured for wireless N as for my notebook, the wireless N network also have been configured as well.   I also will like to check that in the advance setting for the wireless card in the notebook under the WIRELESS MODE, i can only see 802.11a/b/g but not N so does tat mean wireless mode cannot be under 802.11n?

Well for my wireless card on my laptop, my wireless n mode is enabled.   The broadband with built in router which is connected to my desktop, the OS on my desktop is win xp while my laptop is window vista premium.   Btw there is a webby in intel website that it wireless card only support wireless n on different brand of router. Link is below. As I know there is two options for 4965AGN card: with and without N mode. How to find out info about yours - I don't know. As well in wireless settings of wifi adapter is position for N. What windows you have?

ok about your spec. As I understand you need to config your 1420 wireless network with N. I'll try to find an information from my 1520 (4965AGN as well) about n settings and will send you info soon. Regards routers to believe - ????? there is a mark about TESTED(!) routers. You can understand it how you want (sometimes Intel looks like Redmond ;-) )

There you can find some usefull information how to use Intel PROSET Software and some more.

You must to choose what will manage your wireless network as well. It is Windows or Intel PROSET. It up to you. But maybe (!) Intel better.

About your card: You need to go to Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters and Properties for your Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. > Second tab "Advanced" > 802.11n - Value could be Enabled.

The problem is that I can't try my 4965 dew to my Netgear Router have b and g only.

I recommend you to read guides and just try.

1st, i really like to say thank for all the help that u are giving me but guess am a newbie at this kind of technology stuffs so am still kinda blur.

Will like to check with you that in: Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN User Guide. It got mentioned abt disabling the window XP zero wireless configuration to configure the wireless card? But i cant seem to be able to find tat anywhere or is it because am using vista thus tat y cant find it?

What you wil use, windows or intelproset, you must choose by yourself ;-)
Actually in Vista old XP's Wireless Zero Configuration service have new name. From my experience if you copletely disable it as service you'll have nothing. I mean no wireless at all.
In 4965 user guide is chapter "using proset as your wireless manager" (or like this). There is how to setup proset to nanage your wareless networks intsead of windows.
But in general to check your WiFi card settings regards n you need to check as I wrote you via Device Manager.

OK. But remember that I can just imagine. I can't try it by myself. 1. Forget about XP's Xero Config because on notebook you have Vista. In Vista this service called like WLAN AutoConfig, or like this. 2. If you disable this service you disable wireless at all (from my experience with my notebook) 3. To enable proset to manage wireless networks you need to go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage wireless networks > properties of network you have and find postion 'let intel to manage connection' or like this. Bur anyway I can't say correctly how to start up N network if it disable. Maybe try to setup new one from zero.

I'm using proset (I don't why I can't see proset icon in tray like in XP, but ...) and have Vista Wireless servise enabled. But with regards of 4965 Guide I have been disabled vista to manage wireless connections. Or I enable proset to manage it (it's more trully). As I wrote you earlier I can't check my card and whole settings for N dew to my router have just B and G.
