Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N

Any idea where you can buy this mini pci card. I called Dell spare parts and it was not available. Its also not listed under Dell's product listings.

Sorry no luck yet. At this time that card can only be purchased w/a new system. I'm checking to see why. I know I've seen this before and typically the device will be available for purchase.

Here's what I found out. This card is not available for purchase at this time. It may be available later, but I do not have an ETA.

I just purchased a Intel 4965AGN from Ebay - Card arrived and it is a Dell Card
I loaded the following drivers from Intel Web Site and Card runs fine under Windows XP Pro 32 Bit, XPS 1210 and Lattitude D620

I looked on eBay and saw nothing regarding this card.  I did see several for the 1500.  What exactly did you search for?  I put in 4965AGN and got nothing.  I looked under Next-Gen, 4965AGN, Intel wi-fi link and zip.  Thanks.

Thanks.  I was able to find it.  Two questions.  any difference between this card and the 1500 Draft N?  And I noticed that the Next-Gen has connectors for 3 wiles (antennae).  any idea where the third wire goes?  Or does it matter that there are only 2?  Because the card does not come with a wires.  Thanks again.

I know that my M65 and D620 has 3 antenna cables connectting to the antennas in the LCD - a black, a white and a grey built in.
 
The grey cable had a little plastic cap on it. I removed the cap and plugged it in to the center connector.
 
I can say thay I seem to be getting much better range with the intel card vs. the broadcom card using standard G mode. I have not tested the N performance yet - but I can say I have never been overjoyed with the Broadcom Cards. My preference would be (based on availability) 1) Atheros, 2) Intel, 3) Broadcom.
 
The Intel is a true MIMO card - so is the Atheros - not certain on the broadcom . . . .
 
Personally - I am much happier with the intel - however I will probably replace it with a Atheros AR5008 XSPAN when they become readily available and a reasonable price.
 
The performance in G mode also seems to be better then the Broadcom 1500 or the Intel 3945.

Their are two vendors that have released Atheros AR5008 Xspan Mini PCI-Express Cards.
 
Apple: Model is XB72
IBM: Model is AR5BXB72
 
Their are generic Atheros Drivers Available (Oem) for these cards and the will work in a Dell Laptop with an Internal Mini PCI Express Slot with the following limitations.
 
1) The Wireless LED amy or may not work - based on what driver is used
2) If your laptop has the WIFI catcher switch - it may not turn off and on the Wifi card
3) Dell Quickset will be unable to control the card based on profiles
 
I know that there are Vista Drivers available. This card requires that you laptop has 3 antenna cable in order to function properly. My M65 is equipped with a black, white and grey antenna leads for my wireless - and two leads for my internal HSDPA Cingular Card.
 
Remember - this card is NOT supported by Dell - and I would strongly suggest that you do not go down this road unless you are very comfortable with experimenting with different vendors drivers and configurations.
 
Personally - I would purchase the Intel 4965AGN from Dell or Ebay - install the Dell 4965AGN Driver - and see how that worked out (I purchased one off ebay for $79.00). The Intel Web site now has drivers for this card that support Windows XP.  Both Intel and Dell support the 4965agn under Vista.
 
I have always used Atheros Cards and will continue to do so - however I have decided to hold off on the AR5008 Internal card for the following reasons.
 
1) Cost - The ones I have seen searching ebay are over $100.00 because they have only been released for Apple and IBM - the ones I located were in Germany and China
 
2) Upgradeability - If you are looking for a card that will be firmware upgradeable to the Final 802.11n standard - I would not buy one of these (yet). IBM and Apple will most certainly release the upgrade - but the firmware installer will probably only run on a IBM or Apple.
 
3) I would wait until more vendors embraced the card (Wistron, Sparcom, Gigabyte, etc.) I have been unable to locate AR5008 based "generic" cards . I'm sure it will happen - but it is to new.
 
Personally - I am going to try out the Intel 4965 card first - and wait until I can find a non proprietary AR5008 at a reasonable price.

The E1505 may not have the 3rd Antenna
The 3rd Antenna Lead (Grey) may not be built in to your system. 
I know folks that are using the card with 2 antennas sucessfully ( Main and Aux)
 
I am not endorsing this solution - and if you were to run in this manner - It probably would not be supported by Dell.
 
The Dell Draft 1500-N has 2 connectors.
