Intel Pro will not connect to wireless lan at work

I just bought a Inspiron 6400 with the Intel wireless pro 3945ABG built-in card. I can connect to my home network, starbucks, etc. I cannot seem to connect to my work wireless network. It has an open network with no encription. Anything can connect except me. I can connect to it with a USB linksys adapter but not with my built-in adapter. I have good knowledge of computers but can't seem to figure this out. Any help will be appreciated.

Can you see your work network if you open Network Connections, right click your wireless connection, and select View Available Wireless Networks?  What make and model router/access point do you have at work?

Try to disable the Intel Proset utility.

Like i said, It"s very odd. I can see the network in my available network list, but Windows utility and the Intel utility both say they are unable to connect to it.  If I plug my little Linksys USB wifi adapter in to the laptop it will connect using that.  I did the chat thing with a Dell rep. and they said to call tech support.  After sitting on hold for 30 minutes I got tired of waiting. When I get to work this morning I will let you know the exact model and serial of the router. I do know right now that it is a Netgear router.  Thank you for your help so far.

The router is a Netgear WGR614 v6 wireless router.

Is there a way to check for MAC Filtering on the router at office?

Try changing the wireless mode of the card to b\g only.

Try tweaking the power related settings of the card.
 Power Management: Highest Performace
 Throughput Enhancement: Enabled
 Transmit Power: Maximum

Believe it or not, I had a problem similar to this with my Inspiron 6400 with a 3945 network card.

I could connect to every other router except for the ones I have at home. It would not associate, no matter what security settings I had. Finally I set it to Mixed (B+G) and it works. I had it originally set to G only.

Try that, and let us know how that works. I think Intel's got a buggy driver set out there!

I still cannot connect to the router. Let me give you some more background. I have recently joined my father's company. We are a private investigation firm. He has a netgear wireless router (wgr614 v6). It is hardwired to his PC and there are two PC's wirelessly connected to it using the small linksys USB adapters (wusb54g). If I use one of the usb adapters, I can connect. I cannot connect using my built in adapter. A previous employee set up the network. On the Windows wireless network connection window I can see many networks in the building including this one. This network shows up as an unsecured network with no data encription. The router is password protected and I do not know the password. My guess is that the network is setup to only allow specific addresses to connect. I guess that I will have to reset the router to access the settings and resolve this problem. Thank you for all of your help, my friends.
