Intel Pro Wireless 2200 Can't Connect

We have a 2WIRE gateway with 2 computers connected via Ethernet cable, and 2 wirelessly. I have a Latitude D610 with an on-board Intel Pro Wireless 2200 wireless adapter.

I wanted to test a Linksys wireless card for someone, so I disabled my laptop's on-board wireless and then installed the new card. The Linksys card worked great, so I removed it, re-enabled the Intel Pro and rebooted.

After this, I kept being disconnected and reconnected every few minutes. I thought perhaps if I removed (uninstalled) the Intel Wireless Pro from the Hardware Device list, then reinstalled it after rebooting, that the connection problems might disappear.
But now I can't connect at all, either wirelessly or with Ethernet.

IPCONFIG show 0.0.0.0 for the IP address, also no DNS address, and I get this error message from the Intel Pro software:

"Did not receive IP address"

I've checked and re-checked my TCP/IP settings -- the DNS server and IP addresses are obtained automatically.
I've tried shutting down my laptop, then unplugging the 2WIRE device, replugging it after a few minutes, waiting until it was showing full connection, and then restarting my laptop. Same problem. And the other 3 computers still have no problems connecting.

I've gone into the system manager and checked the Wireless Zero Configuration - it says "Automatic" and "Started." I evenn tried stopping the service and then restarting it.

IPCONFIG shows no IP or DNS addresses.

HELP!!!

Do you have encryption enabled on the wireless router?  If so, have you entered the correct encyption key?

Assuming you are running Windows XP, try downloading and running winsockfix for Windows XP from the Here.  Note that you will have to download this file on a computer with a working internet connection, then transfer it to the problem computer using removable media.

Since ethernet doesn't work either, it would seem to not be a an encryption problem.

Hi, Steve --

PS Yes, encryption is enabled on the router, and I use a 64-bit WEP key, which is carefully checked.

Hi, Steve -

Thanks for your reply. I've gone through all the steps outlined in your Knowledgebase link:

1. Windows Firewall is (and was) OFF.

2. According to Device Manager, the Intel Pro Wireless 2200bg "is working properly". I have again uninstalled this device, re-installed it with the latest driver (2/2007) AGAIN. And restarted the laptop.

3. DHCP Client Startup type is 'AUTOMATIC'. Service status always says 'STARTING'. All four buttons in this section (Stop, Start, etc) are grayed out, so I am unable to change the status. Path to executable is: 'c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvs'

4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\DHCP
DependOnService Data Value is (already) 'Tcpip Afd NetBT.'

Still no wireless connection, and the BroadCom Gigabyte Ethernet Connection (driver updated to latest) is also "working properly" but cannot connect.

What can I do about #3, the DHCP Client? Is there anything else I can try?

Did you try Winsockfix?

Steve -

Any thoughts? If not, I've resigned myself to reformatting the drive and starting fresh.
