Intel PROSet/Wireless troubles on my XPS M1210

:^/ Gentlemen, my XPS M1210 recently developed an interesting trouble that I've been unable to remedy.  The Wi-Fi radio has an icon in the system tray, and you can use this to access the most frequently used controls for it.

However, most of the items in the menu are ghosted over, and I've no idea how to restore them.  The ghosted-over items are still accessible if I go the long way around to access them from another route, but it's still frustrating.  It shouldn't be this way.

:^/ If one hovers the mouse pointer above the taskbar icon the tool-tip message reads: "No supported wireless adapters available in the system."

Apparently, the software cannot see the Wi-Fi card.  Menus are ghosted over in the Intel PROset Wireless control tool, too.

However, the radio does indeed work; I'm posting this via it.

Soooo, what's the trouble?  What setting/switch/whatever needs to be reset to what in order to un-ghost this stuff?

Don't suggest re-installing anything; the second-hand store from which I bought my laptop didn't give me copies of the original System/Restore/Driver discs that originally came with the laptop....

;^) Thanks for the reply, Larry.  I hadn't had WIndows set to control the wireless connection when the trouble occurred, but it hardly matters now.  I just rolled back the Windows configuration to an older setting from earier the same week.  Just like that, the situation was corrected.

:^/ Still, the Microsoft one-size-fits-all approach of just starting everyting over is hardly satisfactory from an intellectual point of view.  It lets people get lazy, you know?

Anyway, thanks.

It sounds like Windows is set to manage the wireles connection instead of the Intel ProSet software.  You can change this in the Intel ProSet software, but I forget which dropdown mention option you want in order to do so (its been a while since I looked at it, and my D630 has the Dell Wireless card instead of Intel).
