Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility for Windows* XP 32-Bit
I have a Latitude D620. I recently upgraded the Intel Proset wireless utility to the latest version. Now I get an error message that says it wants to send a message to Microsoft and it must shut down. I have XP pro SP3. It was working fine until I upgraded. I read through the notes from Intel but don't see anything there. I can use the wireless card through Windows with no problems. Any thoughts?

If you don't specifically require the extra features that ProSet offers, then don't use it. Window's built in WZC works fine for most common networking situations. My only other thoughts are to try uninstalling and reinstalling ProSet. Make sure you get the latest version of ProSet and the Intel Driver directly from intel.com.

I like using Proset better than the one with Windows. I have uninstalled the version that came with the laptop and reinstalled the latest version of ProSet from Intel. I have even uninstalled that one as well as reinstalled it and get the same problem. I will also add that this upgrade was recommended by Dell as part of the driver and software upgrade program.

Make sure that you also got the latest driver from intel.com and not just the latest ProSet software. Intel has varied in the past as to whether the driver and proset are provided as seperate packages (and I have no idea what they're doing these days). Failing that, my only other suggestion is to exclude proset from DEP if you have turned on that protection for all services (a non-default setting).
Best of luck to you, but if you can't get it to work, stop using proset or roll back to the old version that worked.

I agree with NemesisDB. My Intel Proset software wouldn't launch, so I downloaded the latest version off of Intel (WiFi Utility). I was able to connect to my wireless router, but it would constantly disconnect and reconnect. If your an online gamer like me, this can be very frustrating. I uninstalled my driver and reinstalled it but the same problem kept happening. Finally I searched the Intel site for archived Proset wireless software, and reinstalled my original version which matches my driver. The problem is finally fixed but I was frustrated for months! So, definitely make sure your software is compatible with your driver, just because it's newer doesn't make it better!
