Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 - New driver version ??

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Dell must test and validate all drivers that appear on the Downloads site.  Once Dell has completed the testing, the driver will appear on our site.  You can download the driver from the vendor's site if you wish to obtain the driver before the thorough testing begins.

Thanks for your answer. I naturally understand the fact that drivers must be tested before release. The thing I understand a little less, is that the new intel driver is dated from November. Two months ago. With all the problems and issues people report here, I believed that Dell would have put more motivation into testing new vendor drivers.

Anyway, some tests I ran with a D800 including the 2100 3A wlan adapter, both under WIndows XP and Linux (with the help of the marvellous GPL'd driver loader: ndiswrapper.sf.net), tend to show that the connection drop problems and performance issues are related to the drivers, the firmware and/or the miniPCI bus (since they affect both broadcom and intel based cards, on the latitude series), and not to the operating system. That's why I'd like to believe that Dell, which sells semi-functionning wifi enabled devices, will take into account these problems seriously.

I just got a Latitude D600, and have been experiencing intermittent loss of connection in the Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter. The problem is more likely to occur when a larger number of Kbytes are being downloaded, regardless of application (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, Dreamweaver...). Some of these apps keep trying and eventually succeed; others time out after a few minutes.

My wireless access point is a D-Link DWL-900AP+, which has worked without a wireless glitch with a C510/C610 Latitude.

I noticed that for bigger downloads the green bars indicating signal quality would start to decrease in the tray icon for the Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter and then a red X would appear when the adapter disconnected. With fewer bytes transmitted, this was less likely to occur.

I tried messing with power settings on theIntel PRO/Wireless 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter. I switched the configuration for power management from auto to manual, and left it at maximum performance.

This seems to help reduce the number of connection losses in the Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter. Has this worked for anyone else?

According to Intel's Release Notes, "This release's primary usage is to add support for the 2100A adapter,
thus it is not a recommended upgrade for usage with the 2100 adapter."

 

I have recently purchased a Latitude X300 and with the same D-Link  DWL900AP+ accesspoint I can not connect at all. It sees the network but it does not want to connect. And when I insert a D-Link DWL-650+ card it works like a charm.

Who can help me on this one.

For me what helped was

• ProWireless driver upgrade to 1.2.0.56
• 900AP+ firmware upgrade to 2.60 (I'm using rev. A.).
• disabling xp wireless zero config

Could you clarify the troubleshooting you've done so far? 

Please make sure you have the latest drivers/firmware for the 2100 and the 900AP+.

In the 900AP+ have you tried disabling 4x mode, and changing to long preamble?  Put the basic rate at 1-2 and the TX at 1-2/5.5-11.

In XP, have you disabled Wireless Zero Configuration?

In Proset, have you tried setting it to max performance?

For troubleshooting/testing purposes, keep broadcast enabled for SSID and don't let your machine standby.
