Intel Prowireless 3945 a/b/g
I recently purchased an e1405 with the a Intel Prowireless 3945 abg card. Shortly after, I started to experience problems with the wireless dropping out and disabling itself. I downloaded the newest drivers, and the problem still exists. I also went into the card properties and unchecked the box that let Windows disable the card to save power thinking that might be the problem. I also disabled the wireless hotkey in the BIOS. Can anyone help me out here?

My guess is they sent me another faulty card and their RMA QA couldn't reproduce the issue. But it likely could be a problem in the driver and the way I configure and use my machine. I did try a fresh Windows installation and had the same issue. Didn't go the Linux route.
For $16.95 (shipped) I am happy to just have the problem gone. I really don't care to spend time debugging Intel or DELL's products.
FWIW, DELL products have rarely been a problem for me. And the support is normally very quick and efficient at resolving my issue. This is likely just a corner case that won't get fixed until many many more people have the problem. Such is life! :)

Then install the new ones for my express card and it should all be fine?
Anyone have any suggestions as to which one I should buy for my Inspiron 6400 + Vista Home Premium?

I did not get my Intel 3945 working. I threw it away! I bought my own 1390 from eBay and now I no longer have issues.
I do agree that replacing the internal mini-PCI card is the way to go over a PCI Express card. They are cheaper...mine was only $16.95 (including shipping!!). You can probably find some 14 year old kid to do it for you and DELL does provide step-by-step tech docs on how to replace the wireless card.

The Dell drivers that came out today on the website, in appearance, in size, in version number are completely identical to the Intel ones.
But it's been 3 hours and 41 minutes and counting, and my internet has not turned off!

DELL is always behind the mfger on releasing drivers as they go through their own testing before releasing it to their customers.

Before, my record was just over 50 minutes before it broke. So nine hours with no problems = much better.

Good point czuprykc, this is a likely problem and a very simple place to start. I did try reseating a number of times, and I even received a new card, so in my case it wasn't the cause. But excellent point before going back to DELL support.
