Internet Connection Anywhere.. PC Card or ????
Hello Everyone,
Calling on all the Dell Experience of the COMMUNITY. What is the best way for me to go as far as Internet Connection when I'm away from the house?
I have a new Dell Inspiron 8600 and had purchased a Cincular Erickson EDGE PC card but the thing just would not work reliably. Is anyone out there using something that is fairly reasonably priced and that works with a Dell PC???
Please let me know...

It's a shame you can't get the edge card to work. I haven't had any trouble using Cingular with my motorola t720 and my socket pc card and my I8600 to access the internet. It's slow, but in a pinch it's very reliable. From traveling in a car across the Ohio turnpike to traveling up highway 101 from LA to SF, I've been able to send emails, use AIM for instant messaging, search Google, etc. For me, Cingular's been great.

Arthur,
I8600 is my inspiron 8600 laptop. I use my motorola phone as a modem with the Socket Compact Flash Card (which I insert into the pcmcia slot with a CF adapter). I'm glad you were able to get a card that works with your cingular account. I'm not willing to pay for the faster card and service that you use. I don't use my laptop much away from home, only when I'm traveling for leisure, so the slower connection works fine. I have over 4000 rollover minutes, so using my minutes to connect to the internet is no problem and the cost is very low..I pay for data connect in order for the modem to work, but it's only an additional $3/month.
