Internet Issues - Inspiron B130/1300

Hi - I just connected a wireless router to my desktop PC last night (Linksys G).  All is well and I have an excellent signal on my laptop, however, when I try to access the internet, my home page will pop up immediately and I can go no further (Task manager/program not responding message).  I did the Error Message reporting thing a couple of times last night (before I gave up) and one possible Microsoft explanation was an "application hangup(?)"  Again, no trouble accessing the internet, but would like to go further than the home page!

Thanks much for any advice.  Very much an amateur at this!

thanks much - I'll give it a shot.  I did find a lot of stuff on the forum and tried resetting everything to the default and it's working now.  If the prob pops up again, I'll do the reinstall.  again, thank you very much!

did not try that - all of a sudden yesterday it started working beautifully, but if it acts up again, I'll give it a shot - thank you so much!

Before you reinstall Windows, let me ask, did you turn off your cable/DSL modem for at least 5 min before attaching the Linksys router? You must do this to clear out the last device it was attached to.

Gina,
Tray icon displays, "connected" and "strength: excelllent. However, when I open the browser the page does not load. I tried IE and Netscape. Same issue.

jayb140 - If you have the adapter says connected and there is an excellent signal it is most likely that your problem is the encryption key. Please turn off all encryption on the router and see if you connect. If you are not connected when you do this please go to Start > Run and type cmd a black window will appear. Once the window is open please type IPCONFIG /all and press enter then post the results in a replay.

amoore9334 - Have you gotten your problem resolved?

I found that my Internet Protocol setting at the TCP/IP properties was not set to Obtain Automatically. I don't have a wireless router at home. I just couldnt' connect in public. Now, I can.
