Internet very slow with Vista

Question

Hi,   Internet is very slow when I use my Dell Laptop. This is an Inspiron 6400 E1505, Centrino Duo @1.86GHz, running under Vista. However, when I use my other laptop (a Compaq running under XP), everything is fine. I tried a lot of things without success:   - Internet is still slow even if I use Firefox - I fired McAfee. I use Kaspersky instead - I tried the 'netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled' command - I ran the diagnostic tool of Dell provided with the laptop (everything is fine) - Vista cannot diagnose (even detect) the problem - I ran a internet connection speed test with my XP: download=1124Kb/s and upload=638Kb/s - I cannot run the Dell PC Checkup (online), it seems it works only for XP - I scanned my hard drive for viruses and spywares (nothing) - I replaced the driver of my Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller (ethernet network card) for the most recent one   Note: there are 2 sites I can go quite easily most of the time (not too slow)   Has somebody an idea? If you got the Broadcom driver from Dell or Microsoft, that may be the problem. Go to Broadcom's site and get the driver from them and ONLY use Video, Audio, and LAN drivers from the manufacturer. Download the driver, uninstall the device, and then point to the location where you saved the new Broadcom driver.

Hi jmwills,   Thank you very much for your help.   I changed the driver as suggested, but unfortunately Internet is still slow. I noticed when downloading that the Broadcom driver for Vista 32 bits is the same that for XP 32 bits. If the problem is actually the driver, it seems to me that no driver is suitable for this peripheral under Vista yet...   If you have another idea, it will be welcome.   In the worst case, Dell will have some news from me :-)

Frist, be considerate enough not to hijack a thread.  If you look to your left, there is a section named Drivers and Downloads, you will find what you need in there.   Back to Vista..............All I can tell you is that I loaded a Vista machine last weekend with the Broadcom driver fromn the Broadcom site and it ran just fine.  And yes, the XP and Vista drivers are the same.

I am having the same problem with my Inspiron 530 desktop. I have no clue what's wrong. If anyone could provide the link for the drivers to the wireless card used on the 530 desktop with instructions on how to install them and uninstall the current ones, that would be amazing. Thanks.

I realize you have probably resolved this by now, but I had a similiar issue,  My inspiron 1720 was Extremely slow on the internet and impossible over my network.  My issue turned out to be my router. ( Billion 5102) If you do a search of these forums for ' Vista Rubbish' you should find my post.  There were a lot of ideas mentioned that may be of use to you.  ( one post has a list of fixes I found) personally, I would start with your Router.

Hi,   I successfully resolved the issue 2 weeks ago. I finally decided to purchase and install a router (my computer was directly connected to my DSL modem before).  I have not had any problems since then.   Thanks for your help!
