IP Addresses and 3-com ethernet cards
I have two PC's which i want to communicate with each other over the ethernet. There is a conflictwith the IP addresses - what can i do?

First you need to tell us something about how you are setting this up. Do you really mean that you want the computers to communicate over the "internet" or are you just trying to get them to communicate over a local network? Are the computers located in the same location? Are they connected to the same router? Have you set them up with static IP addresses? Please provide more details.

The two computers are connected via 5 metre Ethernet cable
The server PC is running Windows 98 SE and the ethernet card is D-Link DFE 530TX PCI Fast Ethernet (Rev A)
IP 192.168. 0 . 2
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.192
Client PC is a Dell Dimension 4100 also running Windows 98 SE
The ethernet card is 3-COM 905CX-TX-M. What should the address be for the client PC?

From your description, it sounds like no internet connection is involved. If the computers are connected to each other without any intervening hub, router, or switch, you must use a special network cable called a cross-over cable. Since there is no dhcp server on such a network, you will need to assign static IP address in the local range (192.168.xxx.xxx) and each computer must have a different IP address (i.e 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2) and each must have the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
