Laptop does not connect to public wifi
Hello. I am using a work-issued Dell laptop. I cannot seem to connect to open public wifis. I can connect with my other devices just fine at the same time. What happens is it tries to open the page where you get the message that you have connected, but it just never actually loads. My IT department updated a driver that had to do with wifi. I also tried clearing my browser cache which happened to work the first time. So now, when I go to Panera and Starbucks, I am stuck using my mobile hotspot.

Unfortunately the IT department "looked at everything" and said the laptop and its settings are fine. There's not much I can do since I do not have administrator access to settings. How and why would I go about contacting all of the network providers for everywhere that I go that has open public Wi-Fi?

Came looking for answer to the same question. On another site i found the suggestion to disable popup blockers.
In chrome, which is the browser that these public wifi spots seem to default to, i changed the setting to allow all popups and redirects and was then able to connect (after having to reload the page that first came up).i dont love that so will turn it off again, but it did allow me access.
Steps:
1. Disconnect from network (it said connected but no data).
2. Open chrome, click on three dots at upper right, choose settings
3. Search for "pop", go to 'site settings'
4. Scroll down to pop-ups and redirects
5. Select the radio button for "sites can send pop-ups..."
6. I closed and reopened my browser, dont know if thats necessary
7. Open wifi and connect to the network. It should open a window for msfconnect and then redirect from there.
