Laptop ignored existing network and established a second one.

It was the same before, named Miller.  The new one took the name Mshome.  It took an internal ip and is connected to my router.  Some folders have been shared on all, but access not allowed between the two networks.

It is now and has always been set to "Completely trust Local Network".

All new Dell computers come with some kind of security software (usually Norton Inernet Security or McAfee Security Center).  This software has a firewall and by default, is not configured to allow local network access.   It must be configured by the user to allow such access.

It is McAfee security center.  When I ran the security center the day I received the computer I used the "setupassistant".  The network type is "Home Network".  The next page is "Choose your network access".  It is set to "Completely Trust My Local Network".  I really dont think this is the problem, but I have checked all of the settings.  There is one window that says allow local IPs.  I have this set to allow 192.168.0 through 255.  Is there anywhere else I should look.

Can you connect to the itnernet from all computer?  You can try changing the workgroup name to make them all consistent.  This should make things easier, but is not actually necessary, nor is it likely to be the cause of your problem.   You need to make sure that any and all firewalls running are configured to allow local network access.

What IP addresses does your router assign?  Going back and looking at your first few posts, you mention that it created a second network.   We all thought this meant a new workgroup.  What did you mean when you say there are 2 networks?

Thanks Steve, but everything appears to be alright now.  I ran the setup wizard and changed the name of the second one. Gave it the same name as the firest.  It took it and now all is well.
