laptop wireless through desk top?

Question

I need a simple, inexpensive way to hook a 1150 laptop using its wireless connection thru my desk top deminsion2400,and can I use both at the same time? Willing to take any ideas, thanks

Exactly what are you trying to accomplish - I guess what is confusing me is that you say you want to connect the laptop "thru" the desktop rather than "to" the desktop. If you just want to share files and printers between the 2 computers wirelessly, all you will need is a wireless network card in the desktop. Both wirless network cards will then have to run in "ad-hoc" mode, which is basically the same as connecting two computers together with a cross-over cable between 2 ethernet network cards.

And if you want both to have internet access via broadband, just go to Best Buy this week and get the D-Link DI-524 router for $20 after rebates.

Thanks for the help John,                                         I've got dial up service of which I use outlook express and the other family member uses AOL through a free offer and only knows how to use AOL services. Anyway, what I hoped could be done is to take advantage of the laptops wireless connection and have it go to the desk top computer sharing the same line at the same time so both users could be online. Thanks for the response.What I would like to do is,be online which is dial up,and share the line with the laptop computer at the same time. Is that even possible ? Plus right now I have 2 different services, 1 for the desk top that I use and the free aol that came with the laptop. I like using outlook express but the other person in my house only knows how to use AOL                                                                                                                  RBB

you'll need a wireless card in the desktop and the notebook.  you'll then need to configure and use microsoft's internet connection sharing (ICS) on the desktop, which *should* work with aol.   it will be somewhat slow.
