Limited or No Connectivity

Hello I have the following

                  Dell Inspiron 600M
                   Surf Board 4100 Cable modem
                  Dell Truemobile 2300 Wireless router

Had someone set up to secure it a while back, haven't used it much though.  Intel PCI 2100 picks up network with excellent signal.  Laptop connect automatic to the network, however limited or no connectivity (I have not yet down loaded XP hotfix for SP2, will tonight).  I can connect with Ethernet cable to my laptop and desktop.
I have read many different things after googling problem.  Some have mentioned new firmware for router?  Is this possible?
Others have mentioned problems with local networks/ signals.  I do detect two other networks in my area at home.
Also, it was mentioned that a wirless phone system in your house could through off wireless communication with your laptop?  True?
Do i need to consider upgrading my PCI card and Router?
In Closing, I did a PC Check on my lap top through DEll and it told me I needed a Westell DSL/Router upgrade.  Don't know what that is!!!   I use cable modem and trumobile router???+

Any help appreciated.

You don't have the Westell Modem/Router, so whatever you found on the Dell web site does not apply to you.

To eliminate the possible interference with the cordless phone system, you will have to change the channel that your router uses to either Channel 1 or 11.

If your security is set on the router, you will have to enter the router's configuration pages to see if what kind of security is set up and then make the router and network adapter settings consistent.  To get into the router's configuration pages, on a computer that is connected by ethernet to the router, open a web browser and type http://192.168.2.1 into the address bar.  The default username and password should be admin and admin.  If these were changed, then your only option is to reset the router to its default settings by pressing and holding for 10 seconds the reset button on the back of the router.  This will eliminate all securiy settngs and return the username and password to their default settings.

Cordless phone on 2,4GHz ??? :smileywink:
I think the router has security features enabled, but not very strong ones, so that you can connect but can't get an IP adress from it.
Solution: Log on to the router via cable/wired and reconfigure it right.

That is not likely to interfere.
