"Line is Busy"
Hello,
I have problems with my Inspiron 5150 (Windows XP home, BCM V.92 56K modem). In the US I was connecting through DSL - no problem. Now I am in Greece and need to connect via dialup. Every time I want to connect to the internet, the COM3-port opens, the line opens (tone can be heard for about 0.5 second) and then everything stops: the modem does not dial the number and an error message "Error 676 - The line is busy etc etc" appears. I tried all the different options (wait/don't wait for dialtone and so on), software is OK (proper drivers, no conflicts, modem is recognized by the computer, makes sounds). I unistalled and reinstalled modem and drivers - nothing changed.
Trying different ISPs and different telephone lines does not solve the problem, so it does not seem to depend on line-quality. When I remove the phoneline (RJ-11 telephone cable), the modem dials...
What can it be? Does somebody know a solution? If it is the hardware, do you know where I can fix it in Greece?

Thanks, John! This is a possible explanation, supported by the fact that Greece has a discontinuous dialtone. An other forum member, Odysseas, reported exactly the same problem using greek phonelines with an internal BCM V.92 56K softmodem in his Inspiron...
Could you or anybody tell me about alternative drivers and software I could install to solve this problem?
