M70 - WLAN 1350 Utility - WLTRAY.exe memory leak

Question

I am having the same issue that another user posted in the Latitude forums:

"I upgraded the WLAN utility to the latest driver (3.120.28) and now the WLTRAY.exe program appears to have a memory leak (after starting with about 7MB chews up about 200MB in the course of a day). The WLTRAY.exe file also consistently uses about 3 to 5% of my cpu resources. This appears to be happening even in if I disable the radio or if I have a valid and functioning network connection."

My basic system configuration is:

Precision M70
2GB RAM
XP SP2 - latest updates

1350 WLAN
- driver 3.120.27.0
- utililty 3.120.28.0

Netgear WPN824 wireless router (WPA-PSK)

Memory utilization steadily increases and CPU utilization remains between 5-10%!

Anybody else notice this behavior??

Yes, I have a similar problem that I just noticed.

WLTRAY.EXE is presently using 109MB after a few days of my system being powered on.

Latitude D610.
Dell Wireless 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI Card Rev 4.5
Chipset BCM4306 / BCM 2050

Software Version: 3.120.28.0 (May 26, 2005)
Driver Version: 3.120.27.0 (May 26, 2005)
Supplicant Version: 3.0.2.29

I will see if I can find a newer version of the utilities and/or drivers.

By the way, in the course of typing the above message, we're now up to 110.5MB. (And I type pretty fast!!!)

Did anyone find a solution to the issue (other than uninstalling and just using Windows to manage the wireless settings)?

My company's tech support people uninstalled it and then installed an older version (3.120.28.0). It doesn't seem to be leaking any more.

There is actually an new update than the one you both are using. It is located here: URGENT DRIVER UPDATE - Wireless 1350, 1370, 1390, 1450, 1470, 1490, 1500 .   This driver also fixes a security issue that has previously been reported for the broadcom wireless cards.

The memory leak problem started right after I installed that update. I'm using an older driver now that is not leaking. Any ideas about what causes that leak? Message Edited by ryandingman on 01-16-200707:42 AM

Thanks Gina. I've installed the new driver and software and will keep an eye on the memory utilization throughout the day. So far we're at about 11mb now. How much memory is it *supposed* to use?

Hi,   I´ve downloaded R140747.EXE but can get it installed correctly.   Each time I try to install it, about halfway (50%) of the install shield process, I get an error saying:   Error 'Update 778' has ocurred and Setup cannot continue   So I go back and re-install the previous version (A07).   Needless to say, I´ve tryed to download again the module and, yes, retryed many times. Each time, all the WEP and WAP passwords are lost and I have to retype them :-(     Any hints? Any one else has faced this problem?   -- alg

I just had the same error when updating my D610 wireless card...to get past the 59% mark and the Update 778 error, I had to disable BOTH my antivirus (MacAfee in this case) and my software firewall. Once i did that, the driver installed without a hitch.

Note that sometimes software firewall is part of a Internet Security suite.
