mini pci upgrade on 8200

I called up dell, they said that 1300 wont work on 8200, is that true?

yes- there is a little plastic cover on the bottom of the laptop- just take out the screw and pop the cover. It's about as hard as adding ram.

8200 is out of production for 6-8mos now.

No, Dell is being dumb. The 8200 only has a single antenna connector, but I doubt the 1300 requires 2. It uses the same socket standard and same frequency to communicate, so there is no reason why it wouldn't work.

I am curious about compatibility too cause on Dell's Peripherals website I looked up parts for my 8200("Parts for your Dell") and the Truemobile 1300 was listed there...

So I have a question for Dell: Is the Truemobile compatible with the Inspiron 8200?

Yes.  Many here are using it successfully.

hey trueg, where did you buy the antenna from?

I have a TM1300 in my 8200.  You may want to purchase a second antenna.  The single antenna is located on the right hand side of the palm rest.  If you rest your arm or hand there your reception may drop one block (it still works fine though).  I purchased a second antenna for $20US and now I have 100% reception all of the time.  The new antenna runs under the keyboard, so I would have to lay my arm on top and underneeth the keyboard for it to effect the reception.  I already liked the TM1300, now I love it.  Plus it is available for $56CAN from parts & service, you can't beat that price.
