mini pci wireless
Dear wireless fans,
I've been searching the network section for a while looking for information, and I'm overloaded....so I'll just ask.
I would like to buy a wireless PCI card and remove its mini pci card so that I can install it in to an 8200.
I can not do any soldering....none.
Is there an item I could buy that I could extract without soldering AND connect to the 8200's internal antenna WITHOUT soldering.
I've seen instructions for doing this with the Linksys wireless G router
at http://www.geocities.com/flipsoft/linksys.html
but the router is $115. Perhaps this could be accomplished with a similar, less expensive item? What do you recommend.?

Dell's TM 1400 is $69.
DiscountTechnology's a/b/g miniPCI card is listed at $99.

DiscounTechnology sells an 802.11a/b/g mini PCI wireless card and an 802.11a/b mini PCI wireless card, both of which work really well with ALL Dell laptops (that have mini PCI slots). The cards are cheaper than from Dell, but use the latest Atheros chipsets.

All cards are WiFi certified and WHQL certified.
The a/b mini PCI card is $59.95
The a/b/g mini PCI card is $99.95 (this card uses the latest Atheros chipset)
The a/b/g PCMCIA card is $69.95
Mini coaxial jumper cables are also available.
Stub antennae are also available for laptops without integrated antennae.

Dell's TM1400 is a piece of junk since it uses the inferior Broadcom chipset. What chipset is the one DiscounTechnology uses for the A/B/G? If it's Atheros, then it's worth buying because it not only supports A/B/G but the 108Mbps Super A/G as well not to mention, Atheros is supported by Linux and FreeBSD while Broadcom isn't. The other choice is to simply get a D-Link DWLAG520 Desktop card and take the Mini-PCI Atheros card out which is only $75. Only D-Link and Netgear at the moment are able to do the 108Mbps speeds with 90Mbps in actual throughput.

Atleast you're posting a good source to get Atheros based MiniPCI cards.... I guess the D-Link Desktop PCI DWLAG520 for $75 isn't that bad as it has the same mini-PCI card.

Just to make things crystal clear:
Does the newest version of the pci adapter gwl-G520 with the TI chipset (rev C cards of router 624 pci, card 520 are called g+ in sweden se link below) also come on a minipci? has anyone tried this? http://www.dlink.se/products/PCategoryWire.asp?ProductCategory=Wireless
if they do and it works thats great since dell charges the same price in (swedish crowns) for dell truemobile 1300 as for a dlink GWL-G520+.
Id like to have an internal truly fast wireless solution. I actually mailed dlink about this asking them straight out if it can be used. I also sent a link to this forum just to show them how happy people are to be able to use their modified pci-> minipci cards instead of dells....
So, please, if someone have tested this please respond.

Judging from the internal photos dated 10/07/03, the DWL-G520 isn't a mini-PCI.

The internal photos of the DWL-G810 also doesn't contain a mini-PCI form factor card. Although I haven't located any pictures, I imagine the DI-624 doesn't have a mini-PCI either. Can anyone confirm?

The Netegriti EM-500AG is not the cheapest card. But if you want a rock solid, high performing, very compatible card, this is it!

The thing is that im not in desperate need of range, id just like to be able to use dlinks 108g standard with an internal adeptor instead of their cardbus adaptor (which actually is cheeaper than their pci card). thats why.

Another thing:
(i realize this has certainly been coverd on thes forums before but still ...)
How anoying is the carbus/pccard adapter? is it "in the way"?
I just get a feeling that i would brake it, it looks so fragile. Thats actually the main reason for me wanting an minipci card. I mean, i never carry my computer without my rucksack so there is always space for the adapter...
ok guys (and girls :)) with experience, what do you think? im i silly to make the format of the adapter an issue?

my problem has not much to do with notebooks nor mini pci wireless cards...
i just bought a dell dimensons 2400 series for my parents with great hopes that the less than 1 month old Linksys WMP54G PCI Adapter Wireless -G network card would work in it... no such luck... i tryed practicly everything other than trying to use 1 of dell's TM drivers i even called Linksys up and they told me that everything i tryed is everything i could do becides send the computer back can anyone sugest a driver from dell that will work...
I keep getting the device can not be installed becasue there is a problem (code 10) which is a driver issue i even tryed newest drivers off linksys's website to no avail
