Modem router or just a router
Hi, I have a dimension 5150 (3 months old) & want to create a home wireless network. I have bought a modem router but it appears I already have a modem built in, as it has the DSL connectors on the back. When I go to device manager it only shows my external BT modem that was provided by my ISP. My question is do I need to swap for just a router & how do I find or activate the inbuilt modem? Cheers!

Are you on cable or dsl internet?
If on cable then you need just a wireless router to connect to your modem. If you have dsl is your isp modem also a combo modem/router? If its just a modem then you would also only need a wireless router. You will have to see if the combo modem/router you got is compatible with your dsl service. If it is then you can use it and dump your current modem.
