Moving My Documents folder and application support files off network to laptop

I'm not a computer newbie, but I am with respect to administering my own system, so I apologize in advance if this isn't the right place for this question.  Thanks in advance to all who can advise.

I’m currently using a new Inspiron 6400 as a desktop replacement, and the “My Documents” folder that I have been using resides on a network drive.  Some of my application data resides on my computer’s hard drive, and some resides on the network drive.  The Synchronization manager is running and when I’m on the network, the location of My Documents is fairly transparent to me.

Because I will be traveling, I’d like to move My Documents to the 6400 and turn off the Synchronization manager.  I want to make sure that any application data, like locations for my shortcuts, Outlook, etc. that currently “lives” on the network drive will move smoothly to the appropriate place on my hard drive.  When I'm away from the network, my computer get a little confused, even though the files are set up to work "offline."

Is there a best way to do this?

Thanks!

click on start and right click on my documents select properties then change the address to

C:\Documents and Settings\ Gary\My Documents

just change the drive letter to where you want the file to be moved, you will then be asked if you want to transfer your files answer yes and all your files will be cut from the origonal location and moved to your hard drive
