n7110 very slow wifi
Hey all.
I am trying to get my mom's n7110 working correctly in a hurry. The wifi is painfully slow. It is not the router because I am getting great speed on every other computer. The speed on the n7110 is very unreliable. One second it will be 3mbps or lower, then it will jump to 14mbps.....compared to my inspiron 1545 that gets close to 20mbps according to speedtest.net. I've tried updating some drivers yesterday, and that helped a little bit because it was WAY worse before that...it would take about a minute to load a picture.
any tricks or updates i should look for now?

Well I think I figured out what the problem was. This card is a 2 in 1, handling bluetooth and wifi. We have bluetooth enabled landline phones, which was throwing off the network card. Went into device manager, disabled bluetooth, and it was much much much better. I also went into the power options and changed it so wifi only slows a little when on battery to save battery life. Check out this forum to see if it will help you out like it did for me.

Check your wireless driver under device manager and see if it's updated. If not, try to update it. Also, is the wiireless card running on wireless "N"? http://imagicon.info/cat/12-4/vbulletin-smile.gif

I have a new 7110 (17R), with a Centrino 1030, and it seems this card is a real turkey. My speed varies wildly, from 65 to 130. I'm going to replace it.

Well hallelujah. That may have been the most useful support forum post I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I was putzing along at 0.5-1mbps while all other devices on my wifi were doing 18-24. I opened in safe mode with net support and got 20mbps. I looked through the device list and noticed the 2 MS wifi miniports but disabling them was no help. I hadn't thought of disabling bluetooth. Once I did, bango! First test 24.5mbps, second test 35mbps. Now, I suspect that the problem isn't the bluetooth itself, but some background app trying to access BT. I don't use BT so I am not going to worry about it. Thanks a million JOEYD71!
