Need help networking xp pc to '98 pc. Ran the network setup wizard and it didn't work!!!!!!!!

I have a broadcom (I think 440 integrated nic) 10/100M network adapter on the xp computer. The other computer has a Hawking network card (PCI 10/100M  fast ethernet network adapter w/ wake on lan.) I need help because the xp network setup wizard worked once, but there was a major flaw in that only the xp computer could send information, and the kingdom pc kept on saying that it could not find my computer. So I deleted the connection, and tried the wizard again, and now nothing will work. I think part of the problem is that the computers are not receiving information back when they send it (I could be wrong). Whatever it is, the pc's won't connect properly.
