Need Help: Wireless 1350 PC Card...

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forums and need help with my wireless card. Today I got a high-speed internet from comcast and hooked it up to my sisters' computer and am trying to connect wirelessly with my laptop using my wireless card but I'm not getting anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions??? Anything will help!!! My laptop is an Inspiron 1200, the wireless pc card is 1350 WiFi compatible...If y'all need any other things just ask me...... Please help!! Can't take having dial up any longer!!!! Thanks!

Do you have a wireless router?  Is it connected to the cable modem?  Did you turn off the cable modem and wait 5 minutes everytime you change the device connected to the modem.  Cable modems remember the last device connected and will never connect to a different device unless they are reset by shutting them down, waiting, then restarting.

I have a cable modem but it is hooked up to my sister's computer not to my laptop... See at my mom's house when I go over there with it all I have to do is click on wireless network connections and click to connect to her network and I'm fully connected to hers and I'm trying to do the same thing but not having any luck...Does that make sense?? Thanks Steve for helping me. Probably won't read your next reply until tomorrow, but thank you for helping. :D
 
Also what is a wireless router? Guess I don't have one if I'm asking lol.

Either your mom has a wireless router connected to her cable modem, or you are not connecting to her connection at all, rather you are intruding on a neighbor's unsecured wireless network.    In order for you to connect to your own cable modem, you must have a wireless router router connected to the modem.   The router will provide 4 ethernet ports so your sister can still connectd and will allow you to connect through wireless.  Sorry, that's the way things work.

Oh....Well thats stupid lol. I thought if I had WiFi capabilities that I wouldn't have to hook up to anything. Oh well....Guess I got to get a router. Thanks Steve for your help! Much Appreciated :)
