Need Help with getting Wireless

I recently purchased an Inspiron notebook through dell and purchased a Netgear WGR614 v6 Wireless router with it. I also have a dell dimension desktop with is connected through the internet through DSL modem. When I tried to install the Netgear router it was installed and both computers found the network, but it could not get onto the internet. both computers have a wireless card, but whenever i tell it connect to the internet it says that it cannot get onto it cannot find the server. The computers are connected the the network but not the internet, and it says that i have a LOCAL ONLY connection. Can anyone help on connecting my computer to the internet? thank you.

Is the dsl modem connected to the WAN (sometimes called Internet) port on the router?  Is the router set up to make the PPPoE connection to the dsl service?

Is the dsl modem connected to a computer or is it connected to the router.  It must be connected to the router and not to a computer if you are going to get this to work.  Did you read the setup guide that came with the router?

First see the setup guide for your router at:

Then follow the troubleshooting steps at:

Be sure to note steps 3 and 5.
