Need Modem Help.
My mom has a Dell computer and about a few weeks ago, lightening struck and hit her ltelephone. Her computer was plugged into the same telephone line. Now when she has to unplug the phone line to the computer in order for her telephone to work. The telephone company came out and added a new line but this problem stills exist. I took my modem out of my computer (not a Dell) and replaced hers simce I have DSL. Now I can not get a connection. Does anybody know what would cause this problem.
Do I need to buy a new modem and if so, do I need to get the same modem or are they different? BCM.V.92 56K).
I also have Dell computer and thought about taking it out since it is hooked up on DSL but afraid her computer might corrupt it.
What would be the cause that she has to unplug her telephone line from the computer because if she doesn't she can not use her telepone. The phone will have stastic, even if the computer is shut down her phone will not work until she unplugs the line and her phone will be busy when anyone trys to call in. Brought her computer to my house and plugged it in and it does the same thing..I had to unplug it from the phone line so I could use my phone.
Hope I have explained this enough to understand. Thanks for any help that I may receive..

Her modem is apparently bad because of the lightning hit. However, it could have also damaged other internal components and just replacing the modem may not work. The cable that connects the modem to the telco wall jack is probably bad too.
However, whatever modem you install must have a driver for that specific modem. A driver for a different modem won't work.
