Net Framework 2 - advised download from Dell Support Center? I already have 3.5 ...
The Dell Support Center pop up advised me to download Net Framework 2 (on my Dimension E520, Vista Home Premium, SP1) just now.
If I go to Control Panel \ Programs and Features, I already see Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.
This seems like a step backwards ... or do I not understand something? I will not install Net Framework 2 unless someone here can explain what is going on.
Thanks, Dave Horne

Dave,
I know on my old XP machine, you needed to have all the version of .net framework for things to work properly and not get these errors.
Here is an older post I made when I had XP and the versions of net framework weren't as many as they are today. The basic issue was that you really needed all the version installed on your computer to get everything working, sounds backwards but that's the way Microsoft handled this. So My XP SP3 machine has versions 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 and all the hotfixes for my son to be able to use .net framework.
Net framework version 1.1 SP1
The hotfix for Version 1.1 SP1 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8EC6FB8A-29EB-49CF-9DBC-1A0DC2273FF9&displaylang=en
Net framework 2.0
all can be downloaded here

after you install the net framework(s), the windows updates will disappear.
I have a Vista machine now and I only can find the version of .net framework that I downloaded from here.
It won't hurt to download and install it. Better yet, maybe Belarc Advisor or Secunia PSI can shed some light on this for you.
