Network connection is lost 10 times an hour
Hi
I've just gotten a new top of the line Dell Latitude D610 with an Intel 2200B/G network adapter.
Before this computer i had an Inspiron 8200 for three years without any problems.
Now i loose the network connection up towards ten times an hour and the only way i can get it to reconnect is by completely disabling the adapter and enabling it again by using the Fn+F2 button combo.
I have updated to the latest drivers, bios and everything(which it also was when it came from the factory since i just received it)
I have several other laptops in the house which all have no problem maintaining a connection to the router for several days at a time so this is completely unacceptable for such an expensive machine.
Does anybody have any solution for this or is the D610 just cr*p in this respect? In which case im gonna throw the cr*p right back in there face!
I have even tried using some other routers i have in the house of different makes and its the same problem nomatter which one.
I have actually lost connection twice during this short message!

I have the exact same problem as you.
Is the status of your network "Not Associated"?
I'm suspicious this may be my problem. Travis

I thing I reduced the "Transmission Power" from the Intel task bar configuration icon and it didn't do it anymore. But still why should I set it to 40 % of the power when it is meant to run 100%?
I think it is a problem with the minipci card that is not functioning properly.
Once I was downloading something at 40k and the whole machine collapsed!
That was the fastest ever I downloaded since the INTERNET hasn't been functioning properly in this part of the world.(Asia)
I'll keep you updated if I found the problem!

I have solved the problem in my D610.
Checking my Device Manager I found that an obscure driver was missing. Frankly, I don't even know why it applies on my machine unless it's a feature I didn't know about. The descriptor of the missing driver was "PCI Simple Communications Manager" and the fix was a software download called "Texas Instruments PCI 6515 Carbus, v.1.0.1.8 (FLASH), 1.0.1.13 (SmartCard), A00". I have no idea why this fixed my problem but after deleting the item in Device Manager, installing the above software and rebooting, and allowing XP to recognize the need for the driver and installing it my problem went away.
It was a painful process to find this solution. Dell had me go through all sorts of contortions of testing including reinstalling the OS and drivers three times (to try different install sequences). In the end it was by chance that we stumbled upon this solution and the reps I talked to had no idea why this cured things. They didn't see a corelation between solution and problem.
Next time I think I'll wait a while to buy a brand new computer model.
I want others to clean things up for me in the future. :smileymad:
Hope this helps. Travis

Thanks ALOT for the info. I've been trying to return the computer for some days now but somehow Dell all of the sudden seem VERY slow to answer me. Hehe
But while i try getting some answers from them on how to return the computer im gonna give it another shot - If i can get the netcard to work proberbly i MIGHT be able to live with the noise on the headphone jack.
Do you have the problem with alot of noise on the headphone jack? Both when playing music and when not playing anything? Please try that for me if you would be so kind.
