I am a TM 2300 owner since mid January. With knowledge gained from this forum I feel that I know the basics about this device. I would bet lots that it wasnt possible to encrypt using WPA with the TM 2300 and the TM 1300 pcmcia wireless card. I recently dloaded this update. It appeared that I was having a chance with WPA as the 1300 utility now indicated that security was " TKIP, WEP" . When I did simple WEP security it would just show " WEP".

However, I am not sure if it was a  coincidence but I seemed to be losing internet connection around the time that the key renewal was to take place although no error message would appear. Anyways after trying several different settings I decide to start fresh and did a reset. Now the power light will not show for this router :(. Dell is sending me a new one next week.

Looking at this dload page it indicates that it is compatible to Dimension 2350. Nothing else is listed. So does that mean it isnt compatible for a Dimension 4600 system??

Thanks for the reply. This does make sense. But then why did Dell mention a Dimension at all?

I upgraded the firmware hoping to be able to get WPA encryption and now the router "lockups" regularly and I am unable to connect to the internet. To get my connection back I need to power it down then power it back up. I made sure that it is the router and not the modem or DSL connection by removing the router from the setup and connecting only to the modem. In that extended time period I maintained a steady uninterrupted conection to the internet. This is so frustrating. I picked the TM 2300 and the TM 1300 pcmcia card so it would be more likely that they would play nice with each other. It seems clear to me that to me that this new firmware is a step back for the reliability of this piece of equipment. What a pain.

Hi

It happen to me, it took some time for the router to settle itself to the new enviroment.

I could not connect, refreshing screen was slow, tracert slow refresh (tracert -d) is fast response.....etc.

now its working just  fine.

So after the upgrade your wired desktop would have random disconnects from the internet? And eddie you didnt do anything with settings to try to rectify the problem? As I recall you emailed Dell about the new and old firmware. Did they give you advice for fixing the problem I describe? I want some hope.

the router would not connect, after couple hard reset ( button on the back of the router and modem) the router and the modem, it worked fine, you may need to power all devices and pc down for a minute or so.

I did a hard reset to a 2300 last week and then it wouldnt power up :(. So I hesitate doing it again to the replacement :). And when I upgraded the firmware this time, and the last time, I didnt lose connection at that time at all. It appeared all was going to be fine. I now appear to lose connection during a period of inactivity. Oh it is bugging me.

BTW what modem do you have ?

did you try different channel or even forcing the transer rate as in 11Mbps, also no mobile phone or cordless phone nearby, have you also tried with no encryption, just to pin point the issue ..!

I have a Speedstream 5200 modem (DSL). I dont think I explained the details of my loss of internet very well. With the new firmware for the 2300 I lose internet connection on the hardwired (desktop ethernet cable router ethernet cable modem)   desktop, usually during a period of inactivity. But this doesnt happen when I remove the router from the setup and instead just connect the modem to the desktop. I still use WEP as I did before the firmware update.
