New Inspiron 1545 not accepting Key Code

Bought laptop during Black Friday/Cyber Monday specials for my daughter, but I did not give it to her until January 9th (21st birthday).  All of my initial warranties have expired now, so the technical support from Dell is void (even though I only called them once!).
It recognizes our router name & we got it connected for about two & a half days, then it disconnected one night.  Now it says "Possible Key Code MisMatch"  when I enter the Key code into the settings, even though the PC in the other room & the main computer connected to the router are still working with no problems.  When I called Tech Support over this, I was told that the laptop was not recognizing the key code (I got that much), and that their advanced Tech Support ($$) would be handling the call because my initial warrenty had expired.  HELP!!  We have worked with this thing for hours every night for the past week!!  Her birthday present only worked properly for a little over two days!!  This is bogus!!

ANY help is greatly appreciated!!  We have a Netgear, Wireless "G" Router

What says "Possible Key Code MisMatch"?  And in what application are you entering the "Key code" ?  Which Windows Operating System are you using?  Can you take a screenshot of the error that you're getting and post it in this thread?  The network key (key code) is case sensitive so make sure that you're using upper case or lower case respectively.

The laptop came with Windows 7.  When we turn it on & go to the bottom right of the screen to the "bars" for the wireless connection, there is a yellow star-burst looking symbol there, & it says "Not connected-Connections are available."  After clicking the 'star,' our router name pops up with the Open Network and Sharing Center.  I click on the router & click "connect."    It says connecting to network, then a box opens & it says "Type the network security key."  After entering (numbers & lower case), it opens another box that says "connecting to the network."  Then another one opens, Connect to a Network, and it says Possible network security key mismatch.  I will send a screen shot later, when I can connect the laptop directly to the router.

A friend suggested that some of the newer laptops require WPA security settings, and my router does not have that option;  could this be the case & if so, is there a download I could use to get her laptop to accept the WEP settings?  Just a thought.  ANY help at this point is greatly appreciated!!

It definitely sounds like your Netgear Wireless Router has a WEP or WPA KEY configured.  I think you should follow the instructions on this webpage, especially the instructions under "Configuring WEP".
