"One or more wireless networks are available"

I've seen this question before, followed the advice I've seen posted, and still no resolution.  Help please!

Problem: Every 15 minutes or so, the wireless network connection of my new Inspiron 600m drops and I get a "One or more wireless networks are available" pop-up.  I then have to click "Connect" to reconnect to my wireless network.  A few other interesting points of data:

1. The wireless card picks up 5 or so other wireless networks in this neighborhood, but only my network is listed in the "Preferred networks/Automatically connect" box.

2. I have 3 other computers on this wireless network that don't have this problem, though they have older wireless cards and don't "see" the other wireless networks around here.

3. Unchecking the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" solves the problems... except then when I boot the machine or it comes out of hibernation, it no longer automatically connects to the network and I have to manually bring up the dialog and click "Connect".  Very inconvenient.

4. I upgraded the wireless card driver to the latest (mid-July) version.

5. I changed the channel my wireless network uses from 6 to 5.

6. I'm using a 3-year old Linksys access point with the latest firmware update.

Sorry to go on so long, but I wanted to get all of the info out there.  Any and all suggestions are welcome!  This seems to be a common problem, but I have yet to find a single, definitive solution posted.  Very frustrated!

have you noticed that it happends only when you go into hibernation? if so then disable hibernation, it caused alott of problems with wireless. Also make sure you disable windows zero config. stop the service and use your cards software only. I hope this helps

I have problems with hibernation (and standby as well) ...  if you really want to use windows zero then get the patch I mentioned here http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_network&message.id=22577

This page contains a link to Microsoft that discusses the WZC. It will tell you why you connection is dropping.

Many thanks to you all for taking the time to respond.  My wireless is now working perfectly -- holding onto the connection to my AP without popping up the "One or more wireless..." box, and automatically connecting when powered up or coming out of hibernation.  What corrected the problem?  I'm not sure, but I think -- though can't be sure -- that switching my AP to use channel 13 instead of channel 6 did the trick.  Don't know enough about radio communications to know if switching channels really makes a difference.  I didn't install the Windows patches because at this point, I don't want to mess with success.  Thanks again for the help.
