Poor Reception

I have an Inspiron 600M with an Intel Proset wireless network card.  I am experiencing poor reception on this laptop in the exact location of my desktop PC that is receiving excellent reception.  When I boot up the laptop in this location, I initially connect to the network and receive adequate reception, but after a few minutes, the speed of my connection drops even though the signal strength remains good.  Eventually, I get a limited connectivity warning and can no longer receive the network signal.  I can repair the connection in Windows and go through the same sequence until reception is eventually lost again.

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to improve the reception of the wireless network card?

Is there any possibility of interference from 2.4 Ghz wireless phones, microwave ovens, or fluorescent light fixtures?  If so, try setting the channel on your router to one of the extreme channels (1 or 11) and see if that clears up the problem.

I changed my wireless settings to g only and the channel from 11 to 1.  I also upgraded my DSL service to 3 Mbps.  The reception still fades somewhat, but not to the point of limited connectivity (at least so far).
