Poor signal strength & frequent drop outs

A friend bought an Inspiron 15R 5520 earlier this week & is experiencing poor signal strength & frequent drop outs. I took my Inspiron 15R 5110 to her place, connected to her wireless network  & had no problems at all ... good to excellent signal speed & no drop outs. Can anyone help please?

(PS. sorry ... I posted this earlier in an existing thread but didn't realise it had been marked as answered)

My friend came up with this & it seems to have worked ... "I did some research and I enabled a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network instead of using the regular 2.4 GHz setting. My device supports this mode. Since most Wi-Fi routers communicate at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, using the quieter 5 GHz mode gave me better throughput.."

I have the same problem that is very frustrating.  I had an older Inspiron before this brand new one that worked perfectly.  I only get a signal right next to the router. Is there perhaps a setting I need to change somewhere?

PS. she just emailed me to let me know she phoned Dell & they talked her through this. I didn't think she was that tech. savvy!

Hi lottiefrancis,

Open the charms bar and type ‘Device Manager’ in the search box. Click on 'Settings' and then on Device Manager folder from the list. Now, find the 'Network Adapters' section and click on the little plus-sign to the left. Find your wireless network adapter listed and make a note of it.  Click on the below link and  then on  ‘Network’ and select the appropriate wireless driver and download and save it on the desktop.

Once the Driver is saved on the desktop, go the device manager uninstall the wireless driver and install the same from the saved file on the desktop.

Check the signal status and reply to this post for further assistance.
